Some more goals for 2008…
Sunday, January 27th, 2008So… my next goals are do KOI, my project that I have been thinking of. And go out and meet more people. Well, not people, but girls.
Here’s the plan…
March 2008 = KOI
April 2008 = Meet girls

This is a little trick I came up with that helps me with dynamic CSS using Apache web server and PHP.
Basically, in the Apache settings, I added
AddType application/x-httpd-php .css
This code will pass CSS files to the PHP parser.
I stopped here, and everything’s great and dandy. So, I start to develop my website. I’m a no warnings/error whore, so when I see them, I like to fix them right away or it’ll just bug me.
So, while testing I viewed the javascript console in Mozilla. And I saw a lot of these…
I start thinking about this, and I figured that since CSS files are passed to the PHP parser in Apache, the MIME type is text/html.
So, to fix this, all I did in each CSS file, I added this
<?php header(’Content-type: text/css’); ?>
Basically, it just changes the MIME type so the browser will know what to do with it.
Now, I have no errors/warnings and CSS are dynamic.
If you know of another trick, I would like to hear it.
So simple… so powerful…So inspirational…
What’s so amazing is that it all started from a YouTube video started by MadV.
So, some googling (did this a couple months back, but I’m blogging it now) and basically, a guy started to do these videos that seemed like magic. Then he did his last video which was “The message”. It’s a bunch users on YouTube that submitted short videos, and MadV did a collage of them. Very very nice. Very Very inspirational.
The last thing I remember was that he got hired by a company doing tv or something.
Here’s the invitation…
And here’s the amazing video…
Have you ever tried to make a goal but that goal never gets done because of not enough time or you become lazy? If you haven’t, then I’d say you’re goal orientated. But I’m pretty sure that 80% of goals are made, but never done.
I read a lot of online articles about goals and things, and one of the reason why goals don’t get completed is because the goal is too big, too broad, and not specific enough. Take this goal… lose weight. I’m pretty sure everybody has had this goal once in a while in their life. Well… losing weight is too broad of a goal. You need to specifiy something. I think of it as having a lot of mini goals within a bigger goal.
So, how would one “lose weight”. Well, set a goal of a certain weight that you want to lose. But goal can’t be too big where you get overwhelmed and quit before you get started. If you say lose 1lbs every week for one month, does that sound easy? Then after the first month, lose 2lbs… and so on and so forth. Also, you need to read more on the goal. The internet is like a giant library, so research if you’re doing it right.
Another reason why goals are often abandoned is because after a while, it’s just a routine. I gets boring. Well, while reading more articles, they suggest that after you have completed your goal, reward yourself. It’s always a nice feeling to get rewarded.
I think another reason why goals are broken is because of motivation. Have you heard of the phrase “two heads are better than one”? Well two people with the same goals are better than one. So try to get a partner to do it with you. You both can encourage each other. And competition is always a good reason to complete a goal.
Choose your partner wisely too. If you choose a partner that you know might flake out the future, then don’t do it. You’ll flake out as well.
I think a big reason why goals are never done is because the initial start of the goal is not started. Lets forget about losing weight. Lets say it’s to learn more about something, picking up a hobby, be more active… Again, that’s too broad and not specific enough.
Last year, I wanted to learn more .NET stuff. I bought a book. I searched the internet for articles and examples. The initial start was hard, but I didn’t learn a lot. I was thinking about signing up for classes. I had the papers to do it too. But just the initial signing up and looking up classes were overwhelming. I would start to fill out the paperwork, then “something else” came along and I put it to the side. One day I told myself that no matter what, I would fill it out. And so I did, and I also signed up for my first .NET class.
I’m glad I did, because I learned so much from it that I signed up for 2 more classes. After that, I did 3 more classes.
I didn’t just learn about .NET. I learned about how other company works, and some problems they had. My network grew. Learned a few tricks that I can apply to other languages.
It was a good experience, and now when I want to learn about something else, I will not hesitate to sign up. Cause I know at the end, I will get a lot more than what I expect.
I know this is about how AA is bad and everything… but the video is sooo hilarious.
Complete.
I made my deadline for this week and just in time. I ran over 3 miles.
At the end of this I want to be where I was last year.
After my run, I went to Lee’s Sandwiches. Mmmm… It’s sooo good. I missed Lee’s. I usually get it after my night class at UCI. So today when I was running, I thought it would be nice to get it again. I got #12 Vegetarian and added avocado. Oh man, the first bite… it was heavenly. It was sweet. It was crunchy. It was sour. It was perfect.
I don’t know if it was because I didn’t eat it in a while, or that it was the first meal after a run, or both… but it was really good.
During my run, I was debating on what to eat. I was thinking of Del Taco and it’s breakfest menu. Mmmm… egg and cheese burrito, with hash browns and OJ. Del Taco was a good choice cause it was right next to my house. Lee’s was the opposite direction. But I’m glad I went to Lee’s. I think after a good workout, a viet sandwich would be much healthier than fast food.
This is very interesting. I never knew how dirty my mind is… ![]()
Happy New Year 2008.
I usually don’t have new years resolutions, but I think this year is a good time to start… cause I will make it happen.
My new years resolution for this year is have a goal for each month.
January - start to run again. Lets starts small and just run once per week.
February - no smoking
March to December - ?
I don’t know the rest, but one of those months should be find a girl.
On another note… I think 2007 was a good year. I got a house, traveled, took lead positions on new projects, guide/mentor new people, became more independent, became an impromptu cook, be more spontaneous. Hm… I don’t know what else. But most def this 2007 was a good year.
Hopefully the year of 2008 will be great.
